There are several different types of garage door springs. Torsion Springs are the most common springs on the market. If your springs are visible, and mounted on a metal tube above the door then you have standard torsion springs. Among spring types, torsion springs are the most dangerous to adjust or change. The reason is that your springs are connected to the cables that lift the door. The installer applied tension to the springs with enough force to lift your garage door with out help from your opener. Be sure that if you have Torsion Springs that you do not tamper with the broken spring or cables. Often, one side of the broken spring is still bound, and can cause serious injuries.
Wayne Dalton Torquemaster
The Wayne Dalton Torqemaster is a garage door springs system that few would recognize. It’s small and unassuming, but can be a real mystery when you door goes on the fritz. It is a unique system that was designed to mimic the fucnction of a rolling garage door, and provide easy adjustment. This system has similar technology as a standard garage door springs system, but the springs are much smaller, and contained inside of the shaft, instead of being mounted to the shaft. In many cases, under trained technicians and the less mechanically inclined get lost when trying to repair the torquemaster. The set up can be confusing and can make a simple fix a real mess. For the brave DIY type, we can provide you with the toquemaster parts that you need. For customers that don’t want to tackle this on their own, Wayne Dalton Garage Door, just rest assured that you can trust Garage Doors & More of the Piedmont to do your repair right. Extension Springs are a very common spring system installed on sectional doors. Unlike torsion springs, extension springs are stretched above the horizontal door track, and connected to the ceiling supports of your door. Pulleys are employed to route the cable to the doors’ bottom fixtures and apply appropriate lift. When extension springs break, one end is released like a sling shot. This is the reason why safety cables are so important. If you have a broken safety cable, call Garage Doors & More of the Piedmont at 704-545-1170.
It is not uncommon for homeowners and small businesses to have rolling sheet doors on their property. These doors have become quite popular for use on back yard sheds, and storage facilities. These one-piece curtain doors operate in a manner similar to steel rolling doors. The main difference is that they are made of one piece of steel, instead of interlocking slats. These doors are most often hand or chain operated, and knowing that a spring is broken is obvious. If you suspect that you may have a broken Spring, give us a call. We stock mini warehouse garage door springs in many sizes, so we can get you up and running fast.
Rolling Steel doors are made of interlocking slats of steel. These slats are generally only a few inches wide which gives the rolling steel door great flexibility. With this flexibility, the door has the ability to coil up in a small space above the garage door opening without the use of horizontal tracks. Unlike a sectional garage door, the springs that operate a rolling steel door are not visible. They are located inside the spring barrel. The springs inside the barrel provide a counter balance for the door, so that it functions with ease. In some cases, it is very difficult to know if you have broken garage door springs on a rolling steel door. The spring barrel is sealed on each end, and some heavier doors have more than one spring. A clue that there is a problem will be the sound of your automatic opener. If it sounds like it is struggling to move the door discontinue use immediately. If your door is operated by a chain hoist the problem will be fairly obvious. If you need a friend or coworker to open your door, you may need to call a professional.

Angie’s List Reviews
Initially I had paid for a garage door check-up. But as I attempted to open the door, it broke right in front of the representative from Doors and More! So we went right to an estimate for a new door. The new door was in stock and was installed a few hours later. Nick, the representative, discussed some aspects of the door I would need, answered all my questions, and the gave me a fantastic estimate price!! A few hours later Jamie came to install the new door. He also took away the old door. By about 5:00 pm I had a beautiful new garage door at a great price! Both of the employees of the company were very courteous and professional. I highly recommend Doors and More of the Piedmont!!!
The Garage Door at one of my rental properties needed to be replaced. I search for Garage Door Service companies in my area. I was impressed with this companies website. I received friendly service from the first phone call until my door had been replaced. I will refer all of my family and friends to this company.
The garage door opener had failed and needed to be replaced. Technician came out and completed the job in about an hour. He then demonstrated how the door should operate and tested it thoroughly. It went well.
Called company and got estimate on garage door installation over the phone, Installer arrived next day at scheduled time. The door was installed in about 3 hours, the installer knew exactly what he was doing and installation was performed efficiently and in a friendly professional manner. In addition to installation vinyl trim was added on the exterior around the door and made the installation look much better and a added benefit was additional weatherproofing. The installer cleaned up after installation and told me how to care for and lubricate the door and type of lubricant. The work was completed at a very reasonable price. I will use Garage Doors & More of the Piedmont again whenever I need this type work done.
I called on Thursday and that afternoon one of the guys met me at the house for the estimate. The price was good and I set up for them to install the doors. The workman came out on Saturday and installed the doors and openers in a timely fashion. Job was well done.
Great. The gentleman on the phone was fantastic and the service man was as well. Did a thorough check of everything and actually found out that the safety guard wasn’t working – the door wasn’t set to stop if something blocked the path – and I have a 4 year old!! We never would have known it and that’s not even why they were there – bless them!!! They fixed the problem and even fielded a follow up call.
